The context
An educational institution wanted to understand its organizational culture and how people across the organization were experiencing it. With around 100 employees involved, the sponsor wanted a clear picture of how closely leadership and staff were aligned. The approach
Two IMPACT Team Diagnostics were conducted: one with the leadership team representing different departments, and another with the wider staff group. Internal coaches and facilitators then used the findings to support team conversations and interventions. What the diagnostic revealed
The results showed a strikingly similar distribution of scores across the two groups, indicating a high degree of alignment between leadership and the wider organization. Leadership scores were slightly higher overall, suggesting that leaders were somewhat more optimistic about the team experience but the differences were not significant.Rather than exposing a major cultural disconnect, the diagnostic provided reassurance that leaders and staff were largely seeing the organization in the same way.
What it enabled
The findings became a powerful alignment and team-bonding moment. Leaders were able to validate their understanding of the organization's values, vision and culture while also identifying specific areas that deserved attention. The transparency of the results helped build trust and generated strong buy-in from staff. When the organization later went through a restructuring and welcomed a new leader, the diagnostic findings provided a useful starting point for understanding where team morale and cohesion could be strengthened.
The impact
The diagnostic created a shared picture of the organization, reinforced alignment between leadership and staff, and provided a practical foundation for future team development.
